Gatta Gusthi is a traditional form of submission wrestling originating from Kerala, India. Matches are held on sand-laden grounds called godha, often on beaches, and involve wrestlers, known as phayalvans, using over 100 techniques. The sport reached its peak between 1945 and 1970, particularly in regions like Kochi and Kollam, but began to decline with the rise of freestyle wrestling and karate in the late 1960s

Unlike modern wrestling, Gatta Gusthi has no weight classes or fixed time limits; bouts continue until one wrestler pins the other. Wrestlers wear minimal clothing and can use their opponent's garments to gain an advantage. The sport is more technique-intensive than freestyle wrestling, with many moves considered too risky for modern formats

Today, Gatta Gusthi is promoted as "Indian style wrestling" through events like the Cochin Carnival and the Beach Carnival in Kerala.
